Early deterioration detection in severe asthma
Enabling monthly monitoring of severe asthma patients to identify deterioration and prioritize clinical intervention

Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge is a tertiary hospital. Before LOLA, patients with severe asthma who felt unwell went to the emergency department or to their GP. Guidelines recommend assessing uncontrolled patients every 3 months and controlled patients every 6 months or more, but the disease is variable and can decompensate between visits. The Severe Asthma Unit now follows patients monthly with LOLA, adjustable to each patient, to recognise deterioration early: symptom control, risk of crises and any events that required emergency care.
