Artificial intelligence at Hospital Doctor Balmis has saved the lives of 46 patients with severe aortic stenosis by optimizing the TAVI implant waiting list.

The Hemodynamics Department at Hospital Doctor Balmis in Alicante, together with the Cardiovascular Pathology Research Group at Isabial, has integrated Tucuvi's AI to follow up with patients on the waiting list for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), enabling healthcare professionals to detect clinical deterioration early and prioritize interventions accordingly.
The project, called Teletavi, uses a LOLA, Tucuvi' Clinical voice AI Agent, to conduct biweekly patient calls, tracking the progression of their condition.
''AI saves the lives of 46 heart patients in the province of Alicante''
Since implementation, 255 patients have been monitored, and 46 have been prioritized, preventing critical deterioration or even death before the procedure. This approach has helped optimize the waiting list and improve care at the only hospital in the province performing this procedure.
According to Dr. Juan Miguel Ruiz Nodar, Head of Hemodynamics, “Working with AI constantly opens new doors, and this has allowed the Teletavi project to evolve, now enabling close monitoring of patients on the waiting list for their implant.”

Recognized as top publication in clinical research
The Teletavi project recently received recognition as the best publication according to the Journal Citation Report (JCR) at the VIII Clinical Research Day of Isabial. It also forms part of the doctoral thesis of Dr. Marta Herrero, cardiologist and researcher at Isabial, highlighting the project’s innovation and clinical impact.
This follow-up demonstrates that clinical voice AI technology not only increases hospital efficiency, but also saves lives, supporting a more personalized, accessible, and safe patient care.
